FAQs

Common questions
from parents

Everything you need to know before your kid walks through the door.

What exactly is Fuel?+

Fuel is the youth ministry of Syndal Baptist Church for students in Years 7–12. We run Friday night events during term, Sunday morning programs, and occasional camps. Our goal is to help young people build genuine friendships, ask big questions, and explore faith in a safe, welcoming space.

Who runs Fuel? Are the leaders trained?+

Fuel is led by a dedicated team of adult volunteer leaders and staff who are all screened and hold current Working With Children Checks. Our leaders go through onboarding and ongoing training, and operate under clear child-safe policies in line with Victorian legislation.

What age group is Fuel for?+

Fuel is open to all secondary school students — Years 7 through to Year 12. Some programs (like Infuse on Sunday mornings) are specifically for Years 7 and 8, while Friday nights are open to all secondary aged students.

Is it safe? What supervision is in place?+

Safety is our top priority. All events have multiple adult leaders present, a clear sign-in process, and our premises are well-lit and secure. We follow a strict child safety policy and any concerns are escalated appropriately.

Does my child need to be a Christian to come?+

Not at all. Fuel is open to everyone regardless of background, faith, or beliefs. Many students come just for the community and friendships — and that's totally fine. We just ask everyone to be respectful of each other.

How much does it cost?+

Most Friday nights are free to attend. Some special events or camps may have a cost — we always communicate this well in advance. We never want cost to be a barrier; if you have concerns, please reach out to us directly.

How do I stay in the loop about what's on?+

We keep our events page up to date on this site. You're also always welcome to call us or stop by on a Friday night to meet the team in person.

How do I contact someone if I have a concern?+

You can reach the Fuel team by calling Syndal Baptist Church on (03) 9802 9144 or emailing wlim@sb.org.au. We welcome questions and feedback — please don't hesitate to get in touch.
